You sit aback the thyroid, like four little grains of rice;
and regulate our blood calcium, it’s your only job in life.
A little of your hormone helps keep us fit and well;
but when you leak too much, oh, we do feel so unwell!
When one of you goes wonky, the others go to sleep;
oh little parathyroid, you really make us weep!
The aches and pains we suffer, are really all your fault;
the calcium you make leak out, is such a crude assault.
So little parathyroid, I must really say goodbye;
my surgeon will excise you ‘cos you’ve gone a bit awry.
